These are solid tungsten carbide; ideal for cutting grooves, dadoes and inlays. Downcut bits leave an exceptionally clean finish on the top surface of the workpiece. This makes them particularly useful when cutting into tricky, wild or brittle hardwoods or a melamine coating where a perfect chip free finish is required. The helical design gives in a constant shear cutting action that results in exceptionally smooth cuts, minimal vibration and lessens heat built-up.
The only downside to downcut bits is when cutting a groove, they push the waste down. For this reason they are better run with a lowered feed rate and a lighter depth of cut. If used on a router table it is important to ensure you have firm downward pressure from a feather board.
